Sometimes, I still do administrative work - although a lot less frequently than a couple of years ago. However, still involved enough, and still playing around with group policies whenever time allows. One topic that keeps popping up is How do I prevent people from writing data to the USB port?, answered on GPanswers.com. Can come in handy when you want to prevent people from downloading data off of the local machine onto their USB sticks.

When doing development for Windows Mobile, you definitely need the Windows Mobile Developer Power Toys. Especially because of the included Emulator ActiveSync Connection Tool, which allows Activesync to connect to your Emulator session from Visual Studio .NET 2003. The other tools are also quite nice, such as ActiveSync Remote Display, CECopy or PPC Command Shell.

Just picked up the book Customizing the Microsoft® .NET Framework Common Language Runtime by Steven Pratschner. Looks like it is going to be a very, very interesting read.

Note to self: need to install SP1 for ISA 2004. From the download page:

ISA Server 2004 Standard Edition SP1 can be installed directly on computers running ISA Server 2004 Standard edition, and includes:

  • All software updates issued since ISA Server was released to manufacturing.
  • Fixes for common issues reported by customers through Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS).
  • Enhanced stability of the ISA Server services and administration tool in a number of scenarios.

Also check out the readme.

This is the first half of the chat over at Channel 9. The second half will come next week. I was already looking forward to that after Robert announced it last week.

In the "note to self" category I'm entering today a link to the online version of the fourth edition of The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language: Over 90,000 entries feature 10,000 new words and senses, 70,000 audio word pronunciations, 900 full-page color illustrations, language notes and word-root appendixes.
